How fast storms build here
A clear morning in Atlanta can turn into a downpour by early afternoon with very little warning. We watch the forecast the night before and the morning of, and we adjust the loading order if rain looks likely.
The goal is simple: get furniture and boxes off the truck ramp and under cover as fast as possible if the sky changes.
Protecting what matters most
Mattresses, upholstered furniture, and cardboard boxes are the first things we cover if rain starts, since they soak through fastest and are the hardest to dry out afterward. Electronics and anything with cardboard packaging get priority protection too.
We carry tarps and plastic wrap on every truck during storm season, not just when the forecast calls for rain, because Georgia weather changes its mind quickly.
Loading order matters
During storm season we load the truck with an eye toward what would get damaged fastest if the weather turned, keeping those items ready to move under cover quickly rather than sitting exposed near the end of a load.
When a move should be rescheduled
A passing afternoon storm rarely stops a move for long, but a serious weather warning is different. If severe weather is forecast for your date, we will talk through moving the schedule rather than pushing through conditions that put your things or our crew at risk.
What you can do
Keep a change of clothes and any weather-sensitive items in your own car rather than the truck during storm season. If the day turns wet, you are not waiting on a box to find dry socks.
A little patience helps too. Georgia storms usually pass within thirty to forty five minutes, and a short pause under the loading dock or the garage costs far less time than trying to push through a downpour with an open truck.
If a storm rolls through mid-load, the crew lead will make the call to pause rather than push ahead, and will explain the reasoning rather than leaving you wondering why the truck has stopped moving.
